Cam + Marie. | kicking and screaming.
marie-bello:
Marie swore she would never feel happier than she did in this moment. Letting Cameron pull her close to him, she kissed him back and felt the babies kick even harder as she was pressed up against him.
“You really want that life? Kids, a marriage, a job, ‘Honey I’m home’, each day?” Cameron snorted in disbelief and Marie sipped her fountain drink, a basket full of fries sitting in her lap.
“Someday. Don’t you?”
”Marry me,” she pulled back and looked into his still bright eyes. “I don’t ever want to be with anyone but you. I want the whole world knowing that I’m only yours.”
Cameron pulled away from her slightly, furrowing his eyebrows with a smirk. “Did you-“He paused for a second and licked his lips, leaning his back against the kitchen counter. He seemed to be collecting his thoughts as he folded his arms across his chest. “Did you just.. propose to me?”He asked, looking down at her, unable to stop himself from laughing.
Was this really happening? He had always imagined him getting down on one knee, covering her entire apartment with roses and bringing out this brilliant ring for her. Everything so classic, clean, movie-like. And here they were in this house, playing ‘house’ as they were welcoming two babies into the world, out of wed-lock.
He shook his head, running his hand through his hair and resting it at the back of his neck. “This better be some sort of joke, Marie Bello.”He teased.
Cam + Marie. | kicking and screaming.
marie-bello:
It happened when she was bent over, trying to assemble the crib Cameron had given up on weeks ago. A slight fluttering in her stomach. Very soft and she almost would’ve passed it off as a hunger pain but then she felt it again.
She stood up, fast, a little too fast, and had to steady herself so she wouldn’t get dizzy. Waiting a few seconds, she pressed her hand against her stomach, and grinned when she felt her babies kick. Babies. It still felt weird to say that.
“CAM!” She shouted and listened to her voice echo in the empty room. Abandoning the crib (they had months to put it up anyways), she hurried out of the room, still calling his name frantically. “Cam, Cam, Cam!”
He was on the phone in the kitchen and turned around when she made her way in. “Cam!” She shouted one more time and took the phone away from him. “Sorry, he’ll have to call you back in a minute,” before hanging it up and placing his now free hand on her belly, beaming.
Cameron cleared his throat when he heard the screaming from the upper level of their home. He brought his eyebrows together in a confused expression and managed to spit out the words ‘I’ll have to call you back’ in some weird, fast paced, form of the English language before Marie was able to snatch his phone from his grasp.
“Wha-“He started to ask, but was silenced by the small amount of pressure on his palm, signaling their babies was somewhere in there saying ‘Hi’.
Cam had taken up an almost annoying obsession with his babies. Sometimes he acted as if Marie wasn’t even around as he talked to them, shared the daily news, and offered bites of his sandwich to the twins.
He knelt down, placing his hands on either side of Marie’s hips as she kissed her stomach twice, ever so slowly. He beamed, unable to help himself. Cameron’s phone then began to ring, ignoring it, he brought Marie into a silent kiss. He was too happy for words. Maybe this time it would actually work out, maybe this time he would have the family he had been so prepared for back in high school.
i skip a heartbeat.

Marie’s head was still swimming. “I have to push two of them out,” she said weakly. “Two of them…” The doctor chuckled, squeezed her available hand, and shut the machine off. The room was suddenly quiet again. Cam was making jokes and she wanted to laugh, she really did, but she felt like she was about to be at the point of hysteria. Two babies. One baby, she had been somewhat prepared for. But two?
It was like someone up there had taken away her child, only to give her two more. Maybe it was Kennedy being brought back to them…No, Marie shook her head. Kennedy had been a mixture of her and Jude. As much as she wanted it to be Cam’s, it hadn’t been. At least not biologically. Kennedy would forever remain lost to them.
“Twins,” she repeated and looked over to Cam. “Like me and Mila.”
“It’ll be fine.”He said, giving her hand a little reassuring squeeze. Cameron smiled at her, becoming so much more calm as the idea sank in. He had always been good with money, with time. He would make this work. Even if Marie never wanted to write another song and be a stay at home mom, Cam would take care of her. He was always that way, born with the caring gene.
“Yes.. you and Mila.”He said and reached over and give her forehead a kiss. “I say this day calls for some ice cream.”He said, standing up, hoping that he would only here good things for the next few weeks until Marie gave birth to two happy, healthy babies that would no doubt both be boys.. at least Cam hoped. He had been going back and forth with the gender of the baby and this thoughts inside of his head.
i skip a heartbeat.

Marie settled in the doctor’s chair, trying hard not to fidget nervously. The last time she had been in a place like this, Mila had been sitting next to her when they got to hear Kennedy’s heartbeat for the first time. It had been absolutely amazing to hear that little ‘thump thump thump’ sounded that just made her pregnancy all the more real to her. And honestly, she needed to hear it, if only to reassure herself that everything was going to be okay this time.
Cameron had his head buried in a parenting magazine and she tried to crane her head to read the title. Before she could however, she heard “Marie Bello?” come from the nurse’s mouth standing a few feet away from her and stood up, pulling Cameron with her.
”Hi,” the nurse smiled at the two of them and Marie tried to smile back, but this was the part where she got terrified. What if something bad had happened? What if she wouldn’t be able to hear the heartbeat? What if…there was no heartbeat? She clenched Cameron’s hand, trying to keep her stomach and nerves in check.
She laid down on the bed, scrunched her shirt up, and tried to keep her own heartbeat calm as the doctor switched on his machine and got the Doppler out. It felt almost like she was getting an ultra sound - except there was no images. She locked eyes with Cameron and smiled, knowing he had to be absolutely mesmerized right now.
It was silent for a few seconds. Then a loud crackly noise, then…a steady stream of loud thumps. “Oh my God,” she whispered and closed her eyes. It was the most beautiful noise she had ever heard.
“Yep. There they are.” Marie’s eyes opened. What.
“I’m sorry, they?”
The doctor turned to her, smiling. “Seems you’re having twins.”
Cameron almost fainted, trying his best to keep it together. He shook his head a little a bent forward, elbows on his knees. “Excuse me?”He asked, looking up at Marie. “This wasn’t in the contract, it wasn’t what I agreed to..”He started, trying his best to keep his face straight as he teased Marie. He gave her a wink and slid her hand into both of his kissing her fingers softly.
“What the hell are we gonna do?”He asked, looking up at her with a bright smile. “I can’t put together one crib, let alone two!”He joked. Cam wasn’t exactly getting it. It hadn’t sunk in. It was like a cruel joke. Something he refused to believe just yet. What were they going to do? One baby was hard, but having two to feed. Two to put through school, two sets of braces, two proms, two cars. The expenses rolled around in his head as they always did when he felt responsible. When he felt he had to take care of something.
“Looks like we got more than one shot to get this right..”He told her softly, thinking of Kennedy. “For some reason I feel like our little girl has something to do with this..”
marie-bello:
Marie knew Cameron most likely didn’t mean to hurt her, but she wondered if he would ever forgive her for leaving. It had taken herself a long time to forgive herself, and she didn’t like to be reminded of that dark point in her life. She wasn’t proud of the way she had handled her miscarriage - she had hurt a lot of people, including Cam. But she wasn’t going to beat herself up over it anymore.
“I’m not going anywhere. At least, not by choice. I’m here for the long haul and Cam…” she trailed off, standing up and standing by him. “Those things were out of your control.” Death was a part of life and very rarely made sense. But she didn’t say that because she knew it’d be no comfort to him.
She grabbed his hand and placed it over her small bump. “Feel that? That’s your future. That’s your new start.” She then moved his hand to her cheek. “And this comes with it.”
She knew something else was bothering him but at least he had opened up a little. The rest would come out soon.
Cameron had forgiven her the moment she had checked out so many years ago, but it was not in his nature to forget the wrong doings of people in his life. He could be a very understanding person at times, when he wanted to be. And he understood Marie’s struggle, just as he understood why she left him when he was only a fragment of the person he used to be after Roxi’s passing.
He had a problem with things that weren’t in his control. He had been in control of his life since he could remember. He had taken himself to school when he could have just not gone and starting doing drugs, well harder drugs than he used to. He could have never showed up and gotten Roxi put in jail.. but that was someone being in his business and Cam hated that too. Therefore, he kept the house clean, the kitchen stocked when he could, himself dressed and graduated from high school. He never thought he would have his face everywhere, in different countries and have the opportunities he was given. And now his father was trying to collect on all of that.
Cameron rolled his eyes and rounded the corner out of the kitchen and back up the stairs, beer in hand. He didn’t mean to be rude to Marie. She had no idea what he was struggling with. It wasn’t fair. He stopped in the middle of the flight of stairs and turned around, headed back toward her.
“My father’s been calling me.”He told her, then took a large sip of his frosty bottle. “And I’ve been answering.” He shoved his loose hand into his pocket and shrugged. There, no more secrets.
No More Secrets.
marie-bello:
Marie stared after him after he left the room, not sure of what to say. It seemed the roles were reversed this time. With Kennedy, Marie had been the nervous wreck and Cameron the cool cat. Now, it seemed as if she was trying her hardest to show him just how different this time around it would be and he was falling apart at the seams. She looked down at the scattered pieces of the crib lying on the floor, the dark mark on the wall, and pushed aside a leg as she followed him out into the kitchen.
Slipping into a stool, Marie watched him take a drink of his beer and get that look on his face again. It had been appearing more and more lately, and she had tried to be patient. When Cameron was ready to tell her something, he would. Pushing him would just push him away. But she was getting nervous. What could be so stressful that he didn’t want to tell her or worse, why would he want to hide something from her? This time around was supposed to be different. They were supposed to be the new and improved CamandMarie.
“You’re going to be a great dad,” she said, as his eyes met hers. “You’re the most caring, the most generous, the most protective guy I’ve ever met. I wish we had Kennedy too. Do you want to tell me what is really about? What’s going on that has you so upset?”
She was trying. Cameron had to admit she had gotten better to approaching him with her questions. She wasn’t the demanding girl in high school that would poke a finger to his chest and insist she knew what the hell was wrong with him. No, she didn’t give him a lot of time with this.. but she still took it slow and for that he loved her.
“It’s about alot of things, Marie..”He started. “First of all, I do miss Kennedy, I miss her all the time..”He said, blinking back a few tears at the thought of her. “It was so fast.. she was here and then she wasn’t..”His voice faded off but he looked at her for a long moment before speaking again. “And then you were here and then you weren’t..”He told her, referring to her disappearing act. How she was just gone, only a shell and he couldn’t do anything about it. “And then Roxi was here.. and gone too. I lost every important woman in my life except for Adrienne.”He swallowed hard. “Poof..”His voice cracked slightly with his last word.
“I can’t go through that again..”He told her, letting the tears roll down his cheeks. Cameron had only cried three in his life. Alone in his bed after his mother’s death, Kennedy’s loss again alone in his bed, and now as he stood in front of Marie. He wanted nothing more than to just walk away from this situation and close the door behind him, shutting everyone out. And it took all of his will power to stay grounded and face Marie with all of his problems.
